Located along the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia is the community of Woodmont—a small and tranquil oasis that as woodsy as its name. Here you’ll find stands of tall spruces and evergreens interspersed amongst a varied array of attractive homes for sale.
Bordered by the community of Riverwood to the northwest, George Washington Memorial Parkway to the northeast, Spout Run Parkway to the southeast and Lorcom Lane to the southwest, this neighborhood surrounded by hills is a true enclave. It’s also quite close to the Key Bridge—a perfect place for commuters who work in hectic Washington DC by day and crave tranquility at night.
Residential development happened gradually in Woodmont, starting in the late 1930s and then resuming after the end of World War II. Construction continued at a leisurely pace until the 1970s, taking a couple decades off before the more modern era of tear-downs and new custom homes for sale began. The population here is quite small, only about 750 residents in an area that’s a 0.273 square miles. In other words, fewer properties, larger lots and all those leafy trees.
Homes for sale start in the high six figures and climb to over $2 million. Styles run the gamut, including Colonial Revival, brick Ramblers, Craftsman-style, mid-century contemporary designs and custom properties that are best described as huge. There’s no local historical rules prohibiting knock-downs, resulting in a continued wave of construction.
Wildlife is abundant here, with deer, foxes and other woodland critters. There’s also hiking trails galore, as well as the 19-acre Fort C.F. Smith Park, dating back to the Civil War and featuring open fields and a community house for holiday events and other social activities. And despite the secluded nature of Woodmont, there are nearby amenities on adjoining Lee Highway, in Lyon Village and a few blocks further south in Clarendon-Courthouse.
