More About Washington DC Luxury Neighborhoods

Washington DC Luxury NeighborhoodsIf you were to look at a map of Washington DC delineated by luxury neighborhoods, you might notice that many are located in the northwestern quadrant. The DC boundaries resemble two-thirds of a diamond-square, with a northern corner, an eastern corner and a southern corner, with the Potomac River carving deeply into the western side and separating the district from Virginia. To make things simpler, imagine the diamond as a cookie with a giant bite taken out of the left-hand side. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule - Hillcrest is all the way down in the southeastern part of the district, a charming neighborhood with gently rolling hills.

Washington DC luxury neighborhoods that are closest to the corridors of political power include Logan Circle to the north and Dupont Circle to the northwest. These are among the older parts of the city, with a mixture of row houses, large apartment buildings and impressive single family homes. To the north is Kalorama, also with diverse and distinctive architecture. Kalorama’s neighbor to the southeast is venerable Georgetown, along with the upscale gated community of Hillandale offering luxury homes that primarily list in the low seven-figure range.

Also on the northwestern side is Observatory Circle, named for the famed Naval Observatory and home to diplomats and embassies. Along the Potomac is a highly desirable strip of land known as the Palisades and continuing north is Spring Valley, which according to Zillow, tops the district’s median value at $1,507,200. Berkley, also on the northern border is second at $1,440,200 and Kent is third at $1,253,400. The latter features an eclectic range of architecture from antique farmhouses to striking modern designs. There are many more luxury neighborhoods in Washington DC and those interested are invited to research further or better yet, come for a visit.
