Upper Marlboro is a historic town in Prince George’s County, bordered by the Patuxent River. It is also the county seat and part of the Greater Upper Marlboro area which spans 37 square miles of land. The real estate market is quite varied, with single-family houses ranging from modest cottages to opulent custom homes, as well as condos and townhouses. The presence of the river also allows for waterfront properties.

The town dates all the way back to the late 1600s. Back then it was an important port for tobacco farmers. But in time the river filled with silt from over-farming and became unnavigable. It later became well known for equestrian sports.

These days, Upper Marlboro is a place with a lot of natural charm and competitively priced homes for sale. The housing downturn that began around 2008 has a prolonged effect, in part due to the overbuilding of large custom properties. And while values have rebounded in recent years, homes and condos are still quite affordable, starting in the very low six figures and climbing from there.

Also associated with Upper Marlboro are Marlboro Village, Marlboro Meadows and similarly named subdivisions. Home styles include Colonial, Cape Cod, Tudor, Rambler and many others.
