Tysons Corner, VA Homes For Sale
Located in the northern section of Fairfax County, Virginia is the large residential community of Tysons Corner. Covering nearly five square miles, this popular suburb boasts the largest mall in the commonwealth; Tysons Corner Center. The suburb also features two upscale shopping centers; Tysons Galleria and Fairfax Square. In many ways, it's the suburban equivalent of popular mixed-use urban environments that are becoming so popular around the country.
During his time as a journalist for the Washington Post, Joel Garreau penned a notable book entitled Edge City: Life on the New Frontier. In chronicling the new 'live, work and play' model, Garreau described Tysons Corner as a “boomer” - a community built up around a retail environment. In fact, there's more people commuting into this suburb to shop and work than out of it. It's not all retail though – 20,000 residents currently live here and the number is expanding very rapidly. Fairfax officials expect the population to expand to 100,000 by 2050. The transition also includes dropping "Corner" so that the community will simply be known as "Tysons." More About Tysons Corner, VA Homes For Sale
Real estate prices in Tysons Corner aren't nearly as high as neighboring McLean or Vienna. With a sizable portion of townhouses and even some high-rise condos, list prices fall into a solid mid-six figure range. There are however some pricier custom homes at the northern and eastern fringes. While the suburb's history goes back to a Civil War crossroads, the development boom didn't begin until the 1970's. Architectural styles are typical to the area although the taller condo structures are a bit of an anomaly.
In addition to daytime shopping, Tysons Corner boasts plenty of after-dark activities with red meat favorites like Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and Chima Brazilian Steakhouse. For nighttime socializing there's also the Iris Lounge and Lebnan Zaman. The area's very developed and you won't find much in the way of large parks and woodlands, although there is the 20-acre greenspace known as the Old Courthouse Spring Branch which many residents hope will be spared as plans to further develop the community continue.
