Riggs Park Homes For Sale in Washington DC

Up in the far reaches of DC's northeast corner at the Maryland Border, is the neighborhood of Riggs Park. It's not really part of Washington's gentrification trend and certainly isn't known for its nightlife and entertainment. What Riggs Park does have is affordable homes for sale including charming bungalows and American Craftsman cottages and old rambling Victorians with generous porches. Plus there's the oak-lined streets, the Old Town section and the parks and the farmer's market. If that's not enough, the home value index according to real estate data site Zillow, is $253,000 and climbing at a modest but steady rate. More About Riggs Park Homes For Sale in Washington DC

Riggs Park Homes For Sale in Washington DCRiggs Park is an oddly shaped sliver of land, completely straight at the Eastern Avenue/Maryland border with various zigs and zags on the western side. It's not as old as some of the Washington, DC neighborhoods. The older homes were built during the 1920's and 30's, with a larger number built during the post-World War II boom, including the ubiquitous Ramblers, also sometimes called Ranch-style. There are also a handful of new, large brick Colonials with price tags in the upper six-figures. The majority of housing stock is much less though, starting out in the $200,000 range and rising from there. Homes are now tending to sell at higher than value. Zillow's median list is $287,500 with a median sales price of $300,000. There are a few foreclosures and short sales to be had but most of the homes are nicely cared for.

There are a jumble of architectural styles in Riggs Park, including some two-story wood Victorians, a lot of bungalows and craftsman cottages, as well as ramblers and assorted post-war contemporary styles. For the most part, it feels like any typical small town with middle-class families, some who have been here for more than a generation. There are two parks running through the southwestern edges of the neighborhood, Fort Slocum Park and Fort Totten Park. The local metro station is also named for Fort Totten. New Hampshire Avenue which is one of DC's major arteries runs right through the middle of Riggs Park, which helps for those commuters who choose to drive.
