Known as the first modern post-war planned community, Reston, Virginia is home to nearly 59,000 residents and located in the northwestern part of Fairfax County. Planned communities, often referred to as garden-style communities, first gained popularity during the lead-up to World War II, providing affordable housing to workers in the war effort.
