Potomac MD Homes For Sale

As one might imagine, the community of Potomac in Montgomery County, Maryland, lies nestled against the banks of the well-known river. With over 45,000 residents, it's one of the larger towns in the area geographically speaking, covering 26 square-miles. The land was originally inhabited by the Canaze Indian Nation who built the Tehogee Indian Trail in 1716 where River Road currently runs. The land had been granted to early settlers a couple years earlier, setting into motion an era of both conflict and cooperation. Potomac MD Homes For SaleThe modern-day residential development of Potomac began in the 1890's and continued at a leisurely pace up until the World War II era. A post-war boom began in the late 1940's and never really let up. It's been a subject of local debate, with community leaders seeking to preserve historically significant architecture and not fall into the over-building trap. It's hard to argue against demand however – Potomac has become one of Maryland's most sought-after upscale places to live. That also means stunning luxury homes for sale.

The real estate market in Potomac is made up of 76% single-family homes with the rest apportioned to condos. The average list price is $1.15 million, with closing figures lagging below that. The median family income was estimated at $191,677 in a recent CNN Money article, rating it the seventh most affluent town in the country. Bloomberg has also weighed in on the town, labeling it the seventh most educated in the nation.

Homes for sale have a wide range of styles here, including old Victorians, Mid-Century Modern, huge Mediterraneans and French Country designs and so much more. That also includes some amazing waterfront properties.

Apart from the adjacent Potomac River, there's plenty of other scenic outdoor offerings including Watts Branch and Kilgour Branch Parks, plus Persimmons Tree Park and the greenbelt along the river's edge. Best of Yelp lists Billy Goat Trail for hiking, Normandie Farm Restaurant for breakfast/brunch, and Harris Teeter for groceries. Not to be ignored, there are three separate Starbucks locations. In a nutshell, Potomac, Maryland – big houses, walkable neighborhoods and a reasonable commute to DC.
