The modern-day residential development of Potomac began in the 1890's and continued at a leisurely pace up until the World War II era. A post-war boom began in the late 1940's and never really let up. It's been a subject of local debate, with community leaders seeking to preserve historically significant architecture and not fall into the over-building trap. It's hard to argue against demand however – Potomac has become one of Maryland's most sought-after upscale places to live. That also means stunning luxury homes for sale.
The real estate market in Potomac is made up of 76% single-family homes with the rest apportioned to condos. The average list price is $1.15 million, with closing figures lagging below that. The median family income was estimated at $191,677 in a recent CNN Money article, rating it the seventh most affluent town in the country. Bloomberg has also weighed in on the town, labeling it the seventh most educated in the nation.
