Condominiums tend to be of the post World War II variety (i.e. "International-style") and the one thing you won't see a lot of is the ubiquitous DC staple - Victorian-era row houses. There also isn't the typical gentrification trend or hip modern lofts. The neighborhood has always been just fine with the same identity, or as some longtime residents like to call it, 'a small town in a big city'.

Although the Palisades is an oddly-shaped piece of land from an aerial view, and one of the better-kept secrets in Washington, DC, it has all the creature comforts most residents would want. A commercial strip along MacArthur Boulevard offers convenience stores, coffee shops, a Safeway market and a number of popular restaurants. Francis Scott Key Elementary is a top-rated public school and there are good private options as well, such as Georgetown Day School, the Lab School of Washington, and Our Lady of Victory. There's no Metro station in the neighborhood but most residents are content to drive. Despite its charming houses and quiet streets, the Palisades isn't likely to become DC's next hot spot, and locals are just fine with that.
