North Highland Homes and Condos for Sale

Stretching inland from the Potomac River and bordered on the south by Lee Highway is Arlington's North Highland neighborhood. This elongated strip of land is only one-fifth of a square mile in size and home to around 1,200 residents. “Highland” is also sometimes spelled with an “S”.

For such a small community, North Highland has a surprisingly wide array of homes, condos and townhouses for sale. It was residentially developed around the turn of the 20th century, when electric streetcar lines started showing up in the area. In fact, you’ll still find some grand old Victorian homes for sale, dating as far back as 1905.

But don’t mistake this for a quaint historical district in the vein of Maywood or Lyon Village. Residential development in North Highland has continued right up to the present time. You’ll find everything from antiques to new custom mansions, and even upscale condos and townhomes for sale with all the luxury amenities. In fact, townhouse construction has been quite prevalent in recent years.

Homes and condos for sale in North Highland run the gamut, all the way from low six figure studio condos to large detached single family homes and lavish townhouses that list for over a million dollars. Who would have expected such a wide variety of properties and prices in such a skinny strip of a neighborhood?

But perhaps it is the location that has driven development here. North Highland stretches along Lee Highway and I-66, with the latter roadway leading straight to the Roosevelt Bridge which leads across the river into Washington DC. Plus, Rosslyn is to its immediate south near the Potomac, while Clarendon lies to the south at its westernmost bounds. That results in three different Metro stations being within walking distance for residents, depending on their location in the neighborhood.

And that’s North Highland—a sliver of land with plenty of housing choices, as well as lots of commuter options. And don’t forget all the shops and restaurants in the area, from the Shops at Lee Heights to all the trendy hotspots along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.
