Home sale values in McLean have been steadily climbing since 2009, from a median value index of $685,000 to the current valuation of $810,000. The average list price is even higher at $1.295 million while the average sales price is lower at $741,500. One of the reasons for the variation has to do with condo sales, accounting for 32% of available properties. McLean is known as one of DC Metro's most affluent communities. At the absolute pinnacle of its current market is an embassy-style estate built in 2012, listing for a whopping $45 million. For that you get 10 bedrooms, 15 baths and 6.5 gently rolling acres.

Washington Post publisher John McLean was one of the forces behind the building of a 15-mile electrified trolley line in the very early 1900's, named the Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad. In 1910, the community of McLean was formed by the merging of Lewinsville and Langley. The latter is home to the CIA headquarters.
According to Forbes, McLean is the fastest growing city in Virginia. The 2010 Census estimated the average household income to be $195,376. The previous year, BizJournals ranked McLean as the wealthiest community in the country. McLean is convenient to downtown DC via the George Washington Parkway and there are numerous community amenities including high-end boutiques, popular bars and restaurants and top-rated schools.
