More About Lyon Park Homes For Sale - Arlington VA

Lyon Park Homes For Sale in Arlington VAThe history of Lyon Park goes back to the post-Civil War period, when a lawyer and land developer named Frank Lyon moved to the Rosslyn/Fort Myer area where gambling and saloons had become common. Lyon joined a Citizen's League in the 1890's and also purchased the Alexandria County Monitor to better battle illegal gambling dens. Between 1910 and 1919, he and his law partner R. Walton Moore purchased 300 acres of land, most of which were platted as Lyon Park and Lyon Village. They began partnering with home builders as well as commercial developers for shops to serve the new residents.

While development began in Lyon Park around 1920, the Great Depression slowed things down until the the mid-1930's. From that point until the 1950's, there was a significant building boom to help serve the needs of WWII service personal. A number of single-family homes were built, along with garden-style apartments which became a popular and affordable means of housing. Today, homes for sale in the area range from charming old Craftsman and Cape Cod homes, to townhouses, garden apartment condo conversions, newer multi-unit buildings and custom homes paying homage to classic Craftsman design.
