Luxury Style Homes in Washington DC Metro Area

Luxury homes in the Washington metropolitan area cover a lot of territory – geographically, in price and in style. Luxury can be a loft condo in trendy Ballston, Virginia or an embassy-style manor in DC. From new to old, from modern to traditional, from urban to suburban – luxury homes represent one of the region's most plentiful categories. The essential reason for all these pricey homes is the fact that six of the ten richest counties in the US are in Washington Metro. More specifically, the combination of existing wealth, strong local economies, government contractors, tech sectors and concerted revitalization efforts have all contributed to an overall appetite for upscale living space. Luxury Style Homes in Washington DC Metro AreaIs there any one specific hallmark or definition of a luxury home listing in Washington Metro? To a large extent it's like anything else – luxury is in the eye of the beholder. For one person it may be accoutrements inside the home such as a gourmet kitchen or new bamboo floors. For someone else it may mean having extra bedrooms or living in an upscale neighborhood. Generally speaking, we all know what speaks to us individually when it comes to luxury – the idea of having options in life that go beyond the base level. As with all purchases, the more options you select, the more it's apt to cost.

Just as luxury home styles and definitions can vary, so can locales. For the upper tier of listings however, there are certain Washington Metro communities that come up more frequently than others. In DC itself, you'll often find large luxury single-family homes in neighborhoods such as Spring Valley, Kent, Berkley, Kalorama, Georgetown, Chevy Chase, Barnaby Woods and the Palisades. Luxury row houses and condos are often found in Adams Morgan, Logan Circle and the U Street Corridor. Affluent neighborhoods in Maryland include Bethesda Potomac, Cabin John and Chevy Chase while Northern Virginia's upscale communities include Alexandria, Great Falls, Kingstowne, McLean, Potomac Falls and Vienna. When it comes to luxury hi-rises, Rosslyn, Virginia has more than its share.

It goes without saying that the above list represents just a small number of the neighborhoods in Washington Metro that feature luxury homes. It is also true that location matters when it comes to price. Higher end homes exist in most of the local communities but average property assessments in the same neighborhoods vary greatly. In other words, $500,000 can buy a mansion in one neighborhood and a cabin in the next. Once again, living in luxury is a matter of options and choice. From contemporary homes with glass walls and swimming pools to stately Georgian mansions, and from penthouses with a river view to inland custom Craftsman homes, it's all up to you.
