Lake Barcroft, VA Homes For Sale

With a population just shy of 10,000, Lake Barcroft is a popular suburb just north of Columbia Pike in Fairfax County, Virginia. It probably won't surprise anybody that homes here in town surround a body of water known as Lake Barcroft. This isn't any ordinary watering hole however. The lake branches out in a number of directions with odd sharp angles, allowing for an unusually large number of building lots that are either directly on the water or in close range. The town is often associated with Falls Church. For more information about Lake Barcroft, VA homes for sale, start browsing the available home listings below:

More About Lake Barcroft, VA Homes For Sale

Lake Barcroft, VA Homes For Sale The town and lake were named for Dr. John Woolverton Barcroft who owned a nearby mill in the mid-1800's. Modern-day development began during the 1950's baby boom with construction continuing at a rapid pace until the late 1960's. Counter to many suburban communities in Fairfax County, there hasn't been an expansion in recent decades. The reasons are two-fold: First, most of the prime lots have been snapped up. Second, the Columbia Pike Corridor has long been without rail transit which affected growth patterns. While that's changing through concerted revitalization efforts, growth isn't an issue with Lake Barcroft residents who are perfectly happy with their community and a close proximity to the water.

Homes for sale in Lake Barcroft usually list in a solid mid-to-upper six figure range. The local market is dominated by single-family homes in a variety of styles, including Colonial, Rambler, Split Level and a few Capes. Given that many of the homes date to the 1950's and '60's, you'll find a lot of renovations and additions here, including a fair amount of second-story expansions for Rambler-style homes. And yes, there are a significant number of cool Midcentury Modern properties as well with low-slung breezy architecture. There's plenty of trees and green space, and community life often revolves around the lake and outdoor activities.

Life in Lake Barcroft has its own relaxed yet involved neighborhood rhythm. There's the well-organized Lake Barcroft Woman's Club which sponsors activities and does charitable work, and the Newcomer's Club which holds about ten organized get-together each year to welcome new residents to the friendly local way of life. Lake Barcroft is a community that's big on beach barbeques, picnics and touring the lake on party barges. Convenient to area stores and restaurants but tucked away from urban bustle, this is a fun and engaged community with highly appealing waterfront properties.
