More Information about Kent Homes For Sale in Washington DC
Although not well known, Kent's history predates many of its DC neighbors, going all the way back to a land grant given in 1689 by Lord Baltimore, also known as Sir George Calvert. In that way, it is associated with Colonial Village whose roots also lie in the early land grants. The area remained as farm land until the late 1800's when it became a popular place for summer homes. Residential development began in earnest around the turn of the century, with a significant added building boom after World War II. Typical architectural styles include brick Colonial, Cape Cod, Ramblers, Craftsman bungalows and some striking contemporaries. There are also a few remaining farmhouses from the mid 1800's.
As is the case with many Washington, DC neighborhoods, Kent has experienced a lower inventory and higher sales prices over the past year. There are less than 20 homes for sale at present and most tend to come from the post-WWII era. Luxury properties for sale are almost exclusively single-family homes and are known for elegant style and meticulously landscaped grounds. School options include top-rated Francis Scott Key Elementary which is in Kent's 20016 zip code, and private schools such The Lab School and Georgetown Day School. With its steep average list price, Kent is not for everyone. Those who live in the secluded neighborhood however, praise its suburban charm and low crime rate.
