Forest Glen is a very small South Arlington neighborhood tucked up into Glencaryln Park. The community is aptly named, with the park’s thick woods surrounding it to the west, north and east. This allows for a delightfully secluded feel. To the south is the Columbia Heights neighborhood.

The real estate market in this woodsy enclave is entirely made up of detached single-family homes for sale. Prices generally exist in a narrow band between $500,000 and $700,000. And while it’s one of the more upscale neighborhoods in the general area between Arlington Boulevard and Columbia Pike, it’s quite affordable when compared to North Arlington’s country club estates.

The Forest Glen subdivision was developed over a short three-year span from 1958 to 1961. This was a post-World War II era of affluence and growth in Arlington and throughout the nation in general. It was also the height of the Rambler and Split-level craze for architecture. Home builders here in Forest Glen embraced the concept fully, with oversized versions of these midcentury types. This typically means four-bedroom Ramblers and five-bedroom, four-level Splits. There is also a smattering of handsome brick Colonials in the neighborhood.

Residents in Forest Glen enjoy exiting their back yards into wooded park land with jogging and bike paths. Glencaryln Park features a terrific off-leash dog park where your canine pals can frolic alongside a rocky creek. There’s also the Long Branch Nature Center—a wildlife sanctuary with exhibits, nature classes, live animal displays and a viewing pond. There’s also shopping and dining a couple miles to the north along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.

In short, Forest Glen offers large homes for sale at reasonable prices, surrounded by verdant natural splendor and conveniently close to Washington DC itself. This is a suburban paradise, right next-door to urban amenities.
