More About Del Ray Homes & Condos For Sale
An oddly shaped parcel of land, Del Ray is bounded by East Glebe road to the north and four streets on the east as it progresses along a series of zig-zags; Jefferson Davis Highway, Leslie, Glendale and Mount Vernon avenues. It is also bounded by Braddock Road to the south and Russel Road to the west. Although generally regarded as a relatively affordable neighborhood, prices have been steadily rising over the past decade and weren’t as affected as some other areas in the recent economic downturn.
This is a community with a fun and intimate appeal typified by its string of independent cafes, coffee shops and other businesses along its Mount Vernon Avenue "Main Street" spine. From a great farmers market to art galleries and restaurants like Evening Star and the recently opened Stomping Ground, this is a neighborhood you'll never want to leave.
Architectural styles are mixed, running the gamut from Victorian row houses to single family Colonials, Cape Cods and Ramblers. But it is the delightful Craftsman bungalows that buyers truly clamor for. You'll find plenty of these gabled charmers lining the quiet streets. But their very popularity has put a dent in the inventory. Del Ray's modern day popularity makes you wish for more neighborhoods in the same vein. In addition to single-family homes for sale, you'll also find a nice selection of condos and townhouses, including renovated conversions of old apartment houses.
Once a little run down, new businesses began to energize the Del Ray community over a decade ago and new residential buyers soon followed. While homes for sale have been increasing in price, they are sill less expensive than DC neighborhoods like Adams Morgan and Logan Circle. Only six miles from downtown Washington, Del Ray is attracting DC transplants as well as buyers from other regions. Braddock Road Metro is located at the southern end of town and a new station at the Potomac Yard is under construction.
