More About Hayfield Homes For Sale

Hayfield Homes For Sale in Alexandria, VAHayfield was once part of George Washington's massive Mount Vernon Estate. A small underground stream served to irrigate the land in this particular area and it was actually used as a hayfield. While there were some scattered homes over the years, the neighborhood didn't really take shape until 1956 when a developer constructed a number of homes in a subdivision named Hayfield Farms. More development followed and the neighborhood continued to evolve although the 1950's and 60's homes continue to dominate the area.

Homes for sale in the neighborhood of Hayfield include Colonials, split-levels, Contemporaries, Ramblers and even a few Gambrels. There are also a large number of townhomes although they tend to be toward the edge of the neighborhood. These townhomes, many of which were built in the 1980's and '90's, sell in the range of $315 to $500 thousand and are quite popular. This is also some new construction in the area.

There's plenty of green space in and around Hayfield. The neighborhood abuts the large Huntley Meadows Park and is also near Kingstowne Park. There are two well-regarded golf courses in the area, Greendale and Hilltop. School-age children can attend Hayfield Elementary and Hayfield Secondary School. Also in the neighborhood is the popular Hayfield Swim Club. As for commuters, there are a number of major roads that lead toward the interstates to the west or the old Richmond Highway (Route 1) to the east.
