In general the Foxhall neighborhood has a secluded feeling but is nicely located for commuters heading into the city. The smallish demographic is fairly evenly divided among families, single professionals, those in the educational system, workers for the nearby French and German embassies, and retirees. It's a very walkable area with small circle parks in the immediate vicinity, and the larger Glover-Archbold Park in close proximity. Residents also enjoy strolling along the nearby Potomac River to the south.
Foxhall was named for cannon-foundry magnate Henry Foxhall, a friend of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. It didn't become a true residential neighborhood until the 1920's but there are still existing architectural examples of the earlier era. Foxhall was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. While properties for sale in Foxhall are predominately single-family Tudor homes, there are condos available in adjacent Palisades and Georgetown. These adjoining neighborhoods also provide additional dining and shopping options.
There is also a nearby upscale townhome community known as Foxhall Ridge, featuring 32 retro-style luxury townhouses for sale. It was delivered in 2012.
Properties for sale in Foxhall Village tend to sell quickly. The neighborhood enjoys peaseful street and is served by the Foxhall Community Citizens Association, established in 1928. The association also serves Colony Hill, Indian Rock, Georgetown Reservoir and Canal View neighborhoods. Area schools include Key Elementary, one of the top-rated public schools in DC, Hardy Middle School, and the Lab School of Washington, a private college prep school. The neighborhood is also close to Georgetown University.
