Fairlington Towne, A Condominium, Alexandria, VA

Fairlington Towne is a condo community in the West End of Alexandria, Virginia, named after the larger adjacent neighborhood of Fairlington. Initially built as a rental community in 1953, the townhouse-style residences were converted to condos for sale in the early 1980s. While the official street address is 3800 King Street in the 22302 zip code area, the complex is spread out over several side streets.

The original Fairlington is actually on the other side of the Alexandria/Arlington border, and primarily consists of a large number of World War II-era garden-style residences that were financed by the Defense Homes Corporation.  Fairlington Towne was built a decade later in the same Colonial Revival style. This condo community consists of 300 residences in 45 buildings, on over 19 acres of land. This allows for numerous walkways, courtyards and other landscaping.

There are three different residential floorplans in Fairlington Towne, all of which are townhouse style. There is a two bedroom, 1.5 bath model with two floors, a three bedroom, 1.5 bath model, and a two bedroom model with two full baths and a basement. Sizes range from 835 to 890 square feet.

While the units were renovated at the time of conversion, many have been updated since then. Lower level floors are usually hardwood with carpet in the upper level bedrooms. Many units have lovely bay windows in the living rooms as well as patios. The kitchens have windows, and many have been upgraded with granite counters newer appliances. Condos for sale in this popular community have recently listed in the upper $300s to low $400s.

Fairlington Towne is in a great location, with the Bradlee Shopping Center just a block away. It is also quite close to Shirlington and the popular Village at Shirlington with its shops, dining and arts and entertainment. Also, the I-395 is close at hand, and residents can also get to Old Town by zipping right down King Street.
