Dumbarton Place Condominiums - Washington DC
Dumbarton Place is a blocky six-story condominium in Dupont Circle with an unusual backstory. Located at 1414 22nd Street NW, the building formerly functioned as an office structure built in the 1970s. But in 2005, it was reimagined by architects Hickok Cole as a luxury boutique condo development. Together with Coakley Williams builders, the original contemporary glass and steel building was completely transformed into a Georgian Revival-styled brick structure with some more modern touches, including the jutting flat roofline.
The one-of-a-kind conversion from a ho-hum office building into handsome condominium resulted in a number of awards, including Best Urban Renovation and Best Adaptive Reuse Condominium Project in Washington DC.
Awards and redevelopment aside, the end result was 36 condos for sale ranging in size from about 690 to 2,500 square feet. With nine-foot ceilings, hardwood and marble flooring, and fireplaces, these elegant residences have recently listed between $579,900 and $2,399,000. That is, when units actually come on the market.
Kitchens are also worth noting with high-end Viking, SubZero and Bosch stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and European cabinetry. You can also toss in lavish bathrooms with marble counters, huge walk-in showers and deep spa-style baths. Some units also include private balconies.
Common amenities include secure garage parking, concierge service, a community lounge, fitness center and a wonderful rooftop deck with fountain, lounge areas and an outdoor kitchen. And when it comes to getting food for that roof grille (or your own awesome kitchen) Trader Joe’s is an easy stroll away.
Dumbarton Place is toward the western edge of Dupont Circle with views of next-door Rock Creek Park as well as next-door Georgetown. But don’t assume that the building is located in some distant fringe area. In fact, residents are just a few blocks from the legendary Dupont traffic circle and a similar distance from the Dupont Circle Metro Station, serving the Red Line.
And then there’s also all the amazing nearby bars, restaurants and night life. Firefly, Urbana, Blue Duck Tavern, Pizzeria Paradiso and so many other popular places are just steps away. With a Sunday Farmer’s Market, nearby Rock Creek jogging paths and so much more, Dumbarton Place is an intriguing choice for upscale condo shoppers.
