In a part of the country where communities often date back centuries, Dale City is a fairly recent phenomenon. True, there were homes in the area before Hylton arrived on the scene but not many and all of them were of the post-WWII variety. Starting around 1970, things changed in a hurry. Hylton's vision of nice-sized homes at affordable prices came at a time when Generation X was coming into prominence, ushering in the longest economic boom in the nation's history. The Dale City model was an instant success and has continued to grow for over 40 years.
You'll get a lot of bang for your buck in Dale City. Some of the older homes from the late 1960's can be had for less than $200,000. For the most part however, single-family detached houses list in the low-to-mid six figures – nice-sized homes with generous lot sizes. Styles include Colonial, Cape Cod, Tudor, Rambler, split-level and more. Values have been climbing here, most likely a function of comparative affordability in Prince William County, one of the country's wealthiest regions. When it comes to commuter convenience, Dale City is located just west of Highway 1. As for amenities, there's plenty, including the renowned Dale City Farmers Market, the Sterling Golf and Swim Club and riverboat excursions on the nearby Potomac River.
