Columbia MD Homes For Sale Nearly half a century has passed since Columbia first burst onto the scene. The history of the land goes back even further to farm country and indeed, there are some old historic manors still present, dating back to the 1800's. For the most part however, Columbia is a modern community with large homes, tree-lined streets and its own economy that is not reliant on typical commuter trends. It is perennially listed by Money Magazine as one of the top 10 places in the country to live. Jobs in Columbia are not solely related to support sectors such as retail, food and health – there is also manufacturing, bio-tech research and government contractors.

Given that Columbia is such a self-sustained community, real estate prices have remained on a fairly even keel. Detached single-family homes make up the bulk of the market at 73%, with an affordable median list price of $330,000 for all properties combined. The range is fairly wide, starting with townhouses in the low $100,000's and moving all the way up to seven-figure territory for large custom manors. The bulk of the plentiful inventory falls into the mid six-figures however with well-kept four-bedroom homes on landscaped lots commonly selling between $350,000 and $500,000. Architectural styles include Colonial, French Country, Cape Cod, Rancher, Split-levels and various custom takes on traditional design.

With roughly 100,000 residents. Columbia is Maryland's second most populated place. Given its reputation as a bubble city you'd imagine that's plenty to do and Columbia and the assumption is correct. The community is centered around the renowned Mall of Columbia with over 200 retailers, restaurants and the AMC Columbia 14 movie theater. Another popular attraction is the 27-acre Lake Kittamaqundi. And if that's not enough, there are plenty of parks and activities, along with tennis, squash, volleyball and basketball, ice and roller rinks, countless gyms, six indoor swimming pools, 32 outdoor pools and a complete equestrian facility. Nearly 50 years after its inception, Columbia continues as one of Maryland's premiere live, work and play destinations.
