Carlyle District - Alexandria, VA
The Carlyle District offers something a little different in historical Alexandria—glass and steel high-rise buildings and new luxury condos for sale. This mixed-use community covers 77 acres of land at the western fringes of Old Town and is often mentioned in same breath as Eisenhower East—its next-door neighbor.
This high-density neighborhood packs in office buildings, apartments, condos, a luxury hotel, retail and dining and even urban open spaces and parks. It’s also the home of the United States Patent and Trademark Offices which occupies part of the USPTO campus and complex. Other integral components are The Westin Alexandria, the National Inventors Hall of Fame and Museum, the National Science Foundation and Dulany Gardens. Want more? How about the African-American Heritage Park, the Masonic Temple, public tennis courts, a dog park, a farmers’ market and a retail/entertainment center?
And yes, for the crowning touch, there’s even a Whole Foods here!
Located off Duke Street, the neighborhood actually began as part of Eisenhower East (hence the earlier noted connection) but kept evolving until it was its own self-sustaining live, work and play community. This city within a city now has its own organizational representation—the Carlyle Council, responsible for a number of oversight and business/community development functions.
