The garden-style trend was popularized in Arlington by a real estate speculator named Gustave Ring, who built a large complex named Columbia Village in 1935. A number of complexes soon followed, built by either Ring or other developers using the same model. The developments were often termed “court” or “garden” layouts, due to the way that buildings were situated around courtyards, gardens, landscaping and pathways. Cambridge Courts condominiums in Arlington, VA completed their condo conversion in 1986.

The units at Cambridge Courts condominiums are generally in the 650-800 square foot range. Some have been substantially remodeled over time with granite counter tops and other amenities while some have a more dated look. Most units have wood-burning fireplaces which is a nice and somewhat rare touch for these older garden-style buildings. There are 159 Cambridge Courts residences along Arlington Blvd.

The history of Lyon Park goes back to the post-Civil War era when a land developer named Frank Lyon began purchasing land to the west of Rosslyn and Fort Myer, platting it as Lyon Park and Lyon Village. Cambridge Court was built during the housing boom, filling a need for defense workers and armed service personnel during World War II. Today, Lyon Park is a popular neighborhood with fun restaurants, funky shops and a wide range of real estate prices. The community is located between the I-66 and I-395 interstates, offering a quick commute into Washington DC.
