Arlington Court Condominiums - Arlington, VA

Located in the neighborhood of Columbia Heights, the Arlington Court Condominiums were constructed in 1947 as part of the popular wave of garden-style apartments. Comprised of 58 units, most of which are townhouses, these sturdy brick homes are both affordable and popular. Recent sales prices have been in the range of $225,000 to $300,000 for two and three-bedroom units, along with a three-bedroom townhouse that sold by short sale for the incredibly low price of $167,000.

The trend of garden-style apartments was largely established by a developer named Gustave Ring who recognized the growing need for housing during the lead-up to World War II. Ring secured FHA funding in 1935 and built Colonial Village which would become the model for many similarly-styled complexes, including Arlington Village and Walter Reed Gardens. The need for affordable housing continued to grow during the late 1940's, with Arlington Court being a good example of high-quality post-war rental housing. Many of these developments were built along the Arlington's Columbia Pike corridor and most have subsequently been converted to condos.

The Colonial-style Arlington Court condominiums can be found on 16th Road, right across from the popular Walter Reed Community Center and its park. The major borders are the intersection of Walter Reed Drive and South Glebe Street to the west, Columbia Pike to the north, the Army-Navy Country Club to the west and the south. Other parks in the area include Douglas Park, Cleveland Park, Fort Barnard Park and Towers Park.

As with many similarly-styled WWII-era condo conversions, the Arlington Court condominiums and multi-level units offer a wealth of possibilities for the price. Residents often use the money they save on extensive interior remodeling. Common to garden-style developments, the exterior grounds at Arlington Court are pleasant, with trails and walkways leading in and among the various units. In addition, the complex is nicely located for commuters, with the I-395 a few blocks away.
